At First Pres, we see our children’s ministry as an extraordinary and special opportunity to carry out the church’s mission of knowing Christ and making Him known to even our littlest ones. Every event and activity we schedule is filtered through the lens of how to do that better. It’s our prayer that each child experience, know and learn to show the love and grace that our loving Savior gives.
Some things you can expect on a typical Sunday morning:
Nursery-age children: It’s best to plan to be about 10 minutes early. We use Churchteams as our child safety check-in system. It is easy to set up and gives our workers your info to use if needed, make sure the right person is picking up your child and lets you note any special instructions or allergies. Nursery is offered for all three Sunday morning hours, regular programming and all church-wide events, unless otherwise noted.
Toddlers in the nursery will enjoy free play, the Gospel Project lesson and coordinating activities.
Pre-K 3, 4, 5 and kindergarten children: Just like our nursery, we use Churchteams for check-in to help better protect them. If attending worship, check-in can be done in the narthex at the south side of the sanctuary. If attending Sunday School first, check-in can be done on the first floor of the Education Building.
In worship, children are invited to worship with you and then may attend children’s church following the children’s sermon for both the 8:30 and 11:00 service. Children’s church is intended for preschool ages. Kindergarten may attend children’s church, but they are encouraged to remain in worship as soon as they are ready.
Sunday School, at 10:00, includes the Gospel Project lesson and related activities and games. A summary of their lesson can be found on their “take-home card” given to them at the end of class. To subscribe to weekly lesson review reminders, TEXT “SS review” to Aimie at 423-227-1208.
1st-5th graders: They will attend worship with you. Children’s bulletins are available for them in the narthex on the south side of the sanctuary. Sunday School is at 10:00 and includes the Gospel Project lesson and related activities. Children 2nd-5th grade are released at 10:45 unless otherwise noted to the teacher. A summary of their lesson can be found on their “take-home card” or activity sheet. To subscribe to weekly lesson review reminders, TEXT “SS review” to Aimie at 423-227-1208.
Other special events that occur annually: Vacation Bible School, summer “Meet-Me-At” activities, Sunday School Kick-off Party, Fall Festival, Advent Festival, Children & Youth Sunday.
