Now Accepting Recommendations for Elders and Deacons

“Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.” – Acts 6:3

“For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine…” – Titus 1:7-9

“Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless.” – 1 Timothy 3:8-10

Recommendation Form for Elders and Deacons

At First Presbyterian Church, we acknowledge the clear pattern of scripture that God calls both men and women into service in the life of the church. As church members, one of the great responsibilities we have is to share with the nominating committee the names of those people whose lives reflect the qualities and characteristics of elders and deacons as clarified in the scriptures.
